Vibration plates and bone: small, real, specific
Thirty randomized trials. Bone density edged up, mostly in postmenopausal women, mostly on side-alternating plates.
What they did
A pooled analysis of 30 randomized trials of commercially available vibration platforms, looking at bone density and blood markers of bone formation and breakdown. The authors then checked whether age, menopause, plate type, frequency and study length changed the result.
What they found
Bone density improved after whole-body vibration, but the effect was small: an effect size of about 0.11, right at the edge of statistical significance. It held in healthy people and in postmenopausal women, and was roughly twice as large on side-alternating plates. The blood-marker picture was mixed and did not show a clear change in bone breakdown.
The Luxe read
This is a real but modest signal, and it is specific: postmenopausal bone density, side-alternating plates, used consistently over months. The authors call it a possible add-on for osteoporosis risk, not a replacement for loading your skeleton with actual resistance training. If a plate gets you to stand on it daily, that is worth something. It is not a workout.
